| Mission | |
| School mission | UW-Milwaukee is Wisconsin's premier public urban research university. With a student body of more than 29,000, UWM is Wisconsin's second largest university and increasingly the first choice university for individuals seeking access to success in Wisconsin. Students, faculty and staff are attracted to distinctive academic programs such as: the state's only school of the arts and school of architecture and urban planning; Wisconsin's largest colleges of nursing and health sciences; far-ranging programs for educating the next generation of engineers, scientists and teachers; one of the nation's few combinations of social welfare and criminal justice tracks in a single academic school; and, a rapidly expanding school of business that operates Wisconsin's longest-running executive MBA program. With over 150 baccalaureate, masters, and doctoral degree programs, research and hands-on learning are intertwined and many of Wisconsin's teachers, nurses, health care professionals, architects, engineers, artists, social workers, business professionals and more are UWM alumni. Further, UW-Milwaukee provides enhanced educational opportunities to over 7000 area residents through its School of Continuing Education. By focusing on the two primary strategic goals of increasing student access, diversity and success and research excellence, UWM is focused on refining quality and increasing the capacity of its programs, all with an eye towards the subsequent economic impact for the State of Wisconsin For more about UWM, located just blocks from beautiful Lake Michigan, visit http://www4.uwm.edu/about_uwm/index.cfm. |
