| Mission | |
| School mission | Texas Tech University is committed to making college affordable for all students. The Red Raider Guarantee program offers four years of free tuition and fees to students whose families earn less than $40,000 per year. In addition, the university's Graduate on Time program guarantees a student can take all classes necessary to graduate in the least time possible, saving money and entering the workforce sooner. An expanded merit scholarship program is aimed at students in the top 15 percent of their high school class. These programs reflect our philosophy that a student's best interests come first at Texas Tech. This philosophy is also behind our emphasis on students learning about wellness concepts, financial responsibility, and success skills for life after college. The Service Learning curriculum expands each year to provide all students the experience of outreach into the community. The Center for the Study of Addiction and Recovery in the College of Human Sciences has developed and is distributing the nation's first curriculum to establish recovery communities on college campuses. Texas Tech's recovery community is the largest and one of the oldest of its kind in the nation, serving nearly 100 students recovering from alcohol and other chemical addictions; only seven percent of active participants suffer relapses. The national percentage is closer to 50 percent. |
