Mission
School mission The mission of Lambuth University, an institution affiliated with the United Methodist Church, is to provide students with a broad-based liberal arts education of high quality which stimulates free inquiry, critical thinking, cultural understanding, and a sense of purpose within a Christian, person-centered environment that prepares them for meaningful careers, leadership, global citizenship, service to God and humanity, and the lifelong pursuit of truth and knowledge. Lambuth offers an excellent foundation for students who will become explorers and leaders in the 21st century. Lambuth promotes the philosophy that students who become truly involved in their education are more likely to experience growth, achievement, and success. Over 75% of Lambuth's students have an internship experience. Classes at Lambuth are small and are taught by faculty who are experts in their fields and are dedicated to the success of each student. Lambuth seeks to educate the whole person through close contact with faculty and by giving students opportunities to lead and excel in academics, the arts, and athletics. Other special strengths and attributes include: the undergraduate student research program is truly unique at the undergraduate level; the acceptance rate to medical school is 100%; business students continue to rank in the top 10% nationally on the Major Field test; education students score at almost 100% pass rate on the Praxis and have a 100% employment rate; music students were selected to be a part of the National Honor Choir; and interior design students apply their skills and creativity in a complete renovation of a "show house." Jay Mathers, a Washington Post staff writer and author of "Getting Beyond the Ivy League to the College That Is Best for You," places Lambuth in the list of 100 schools that deserve bigger reputations. He calls them "hidden gems, the colleges that students fall in love with only after they get to know them." He continues to say that Lambuth "has a liberal arts tradition with small classes and a fine campus." Although Lambuth is church-related, it is not denominationally biased. Lambuth's community of scholars provides a congenial atmosphere in which persons of all faiths may work and play together for the fullest development of their total lives. Lambuth is located in a historical residential area, and the campus is characterized by stately Georgian Revival buildings connected by shaded walkways and spacious lawns.
