| School mission | A nationally known residential college of liberal arts and sciences, Allegheny is a unique place where students embrace the College's total educational experience. Our 2,100 students have the uncanny ability to create unusual combinations of interests, skills, and talents. For example, Allegheny students might study political science as they prepare for medical school. They might take ballroom dancing, participate in varsity basketball, and conduct lab research- all in the same week. The classroom experience is enhanced by nationally recognized programs such as the Center for Political Participation, the Center for Experiential Learning, and the Center for Economic and Environmental Development, which offer students powerful and engaging out-of-classroom experiences. With more than 40 programs of study and a capstone comprehensive senior project, Allegheny students can explore all of their interests.
