| School mission | Wittenberg University provides a liberal arts education dedicated to intellectual inquiry and wholeness of person within a diverse residential community. Reflecting its Lutheran heritage, Wittenberg challenges students to become responsible global citizens, to discover their callings, and to lead personal, professional, and civic lives of creativity, service, compassion, and integrity. Home to an award-winning faculty, and more than 50 majors and special programs, including outstanding interdisciplinary ones in East Asian Studies, and Russian and Central Eurasian studies, Wittenberg is also one of only a select few schools that requires community service to graduate. Every year, hundreds of students spend time in service locally and around the world, and many more go on to build homes with Habitat for Humanity, work in inner-city schools with Teach for America or enter the Peace Corps post-graduation. Wittenberg also supports a vibrant study-abroad program that annually sends students around the world from Beijing, China, to the Gold Coast of Australia to Florence, Italy, to Moscow, Russia.
