| Mission | |
| School mission | The mission of Free Will Baptist Bible College (FWBBC) is to educate leaders to serve Christ, His Church, and His world through Biblical thought and life. The 65-year-old, four-year institution is the only college owned and operated by the National Association of Free Will Baptists, a 250,000-member evangelical denomination with 2,400 churches in 40 states that traces its American origins back to 1727. While every FWBBC student majors in Bible, many students carry double majors (Bible plus pastoral ministry, Christian education, youth ministry, English, history, teacher education, business, music, psychology, counseling, etc.). As a Bible college, the institution emphasizes a distinctly Christian education with a strong core of Biblical and theological studies at the heart of all educational programs, a Christian worldview integrating the entire curriculum, Christian morals and ethics, and Christian leadership and service. The college seeks Christian students who are serious about pursuing academic excellence and doing the will of God. FWBBC is different from other colleges in that it is a community of faith and learning with chapel four days each week and a commitment to Christian service that places students throughout the metropolitan Nashville area to serve the homeless and disadvantaged in rescue missions, the congregations in local churches, the elderly in nursing homes, as well as counseling troubled teens, engaging in community service projects, and other service roles. Students volunteer more than 10,000 hours of community service each year through ESL instruction with international students. Since 1998, the Teacher Education Department at FWBBC has partnered with the Nashville chapter of Junior Achievement to reach students with the importance of education and free enterprise. The college???s students have taught more than 265 elementary classes and reached more than 5,000 students. A Junior Achievement official said that FWBBC was their top non-corporate volunteer provider. The college is a gathering place for Biblical preachers and expositors, for Biblical scholars, researchers, and writers. FWBBC has long believed that education is more than classroom lectures. What takes place outside the classroom is important in shaping Christian minds, hearts, and hands. In addition to daily chapel and weekly Christian Service experiences, FWBBC students engage in student government, required artistic events, intramural and intercollegiate athletics, and events such as Missions Conference, Bible Conference, and special lecture series. The low teacher-student ratio allows FWBBC faculty to interact closely with students and get to know them outside the classroom. Numerous FWBBC students travel internationally to serve on mission fields during the summer and during fall and spring breaks. For the first time in 65 years, the college is planning to relocate in the Metropolitan Nashville area and is in the process of purchasing land for a new and larger campus. The college curriculum is also expanding into the areas of science, biology education, and nursing programs, as well as online learning and adult degree programs. The college offers 24 baccalaureate and six associate degrees. Being regionally and nationally accredited college, FWBBC is also a member of the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA). FWBBC is approved by the Tennessee State Department of Education for training veterans, foreign students, and Civil Service employees. The college maintains membership in a number of organizations, including the Tennessee Independent Colleges and Universities Association (TICUA) and the Tennessee College Association. The college provides a challenging curriculum and a stimulating learning environment. Professors not only teach their students to think critically as they pursue knowledge in their chosen fields, they also lead them into a deeper understanding of the Bible and the Christian worldview. |
