| School mission | Founded in 1872, Maryville University is a private coeducational institution which serves 3,400 students and offers approximately 50 undergraduate programs, including actuarial science, music therapy, e-marketing and elementary education. Maryville also offers seven master's degree programs in education, business administration and the health professions; and two doctoral degree programs in educational leadership and physical therapy. Maryville University prepares its students for successful and meaningful careers by offering programs that integrate liberal arts with professional studies. For every specialized program that Maryville offers, the program holds the highest possible accreditation. The first university in the St. Louis area to offer weekend classes to working adults in 1981, Maryville continues its commitment to adult students by offering 17 different undergraduate and graduate programs. Classes are offered at Maryville's main campus in West St. Louis County and at its centers in Fenton and O'Fallon, Missouri. Maryville has a thriving on-campus residential student population which has risen by 250 students - more than a 50 percent increase over the past five years - with the construction of five student apartment buildings. The newest apartment building opened at the start of the 2006 fall semester. To supplement students' academic experience, Maryville offers over 40 student organizations that provide a variety of involvement opportunities. The University competes at the NCAA Division III level and offers 17 men's and women's varsity sports. Among Maryville's most recent graduates, 94 percent are employed or attending graduate school. Approximately 15,000 alumni work and live in the St. Louis region. |
