| School mission | LSUS was established in 1967. LSUS held its first session on September 21, 1967. LSUS held its first graduation ceremony in 1972, for the first LSUS graduates. LSUS has a current student population of 4,230, and has seen over 73,000 students pass through its doors. LSUS has an annual impact on the Shreveport-Bossier City metropolitan area economy of over $46 million. LSUS has one of the highest percentages of faculty with terminal degrees (83%). LSUS has the lowest student/teacher ratios (19 to 1) of any public university in Louisiana. LSUS faculty and staff have generated over $20 million in grants in the past five years. LSUS's Noel Memorial Library has 250,000 volumes, 2,000 journals and 300 online electronic databases in its main collection.
