School mission Established by the Sisters of Mercy in 1928 on a wooded hilltop overlooking Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Mount Mercy College has grown in size and reputation as a premier college of choice for women and men seeking a baccalaureate education in a highly personalized setting. With an enrollment of over 1,500 students, Mount Mercy College uniquely blends liberal arts education with professional preparation, and encourages its students to strive for excellence through service to the common good, strategic communication, the use of reflective judgment, and purposeful living. The College is distinguished by graduates committed to service, both in their choice of career and/or personal volunteer service to the community. Mount Mercy College offers five degrees in 43 major areas of study and is home to traditional age students, transfer students and an adult accelerated program. The College's operating budget is approximately $26 million and more than $6.2 million in total scholarship money was awarded in 2006-2007. One hundred percent of traditional freshman students receive some form of institutionally funded financial aid. Of graduates over the past three years: 95% are in employed or in graduate school within six months of graduation; 62% remain in the Cedar Rapids metropolitan area; and 91% remain in Iowa. The College is located in an outstanding Midwestern city which offers a symphony, community theatre, art museum, baseball, basketball, hockey teams, and an IMAX theatre.
