School mission Since 1909, VanderCook has been a leader in the field of music education, and specifically the practical preparation of the school music teacher. Our institution is solely devoted to the career preparation of band, choir and orchestra directors as well as general music teachers. For students beginning their career, VanderCook offers a Bachelor of Music Education degree; for certified teachers, a Master of Music Education degree; and for musicians that have earned a music degree in an area other than music education, a Master of Music Education and Certification program. In addition, VanderCook has an extensive continuing education program.
