| Mission | |
| School mission | Burlington College is an independent liberal arts college with a community-based mission that emphasizes individualized education and responsible citizenship. Founded in 1972, the College awards Bachelor of Arts degrees, Associate of Arts degrees, and professional certificates and offers students a choice between or combination of on-campus and brief-residency programs. Our founders' intention was to create an undergraduate institution firmly rooted in concern for individual students and their interaction with the community. The Burlington College mission affirms the dignity of every individual and gives direction to an education based on mutual respect, open dialogue, and experiential learning. The interdisciplinary curriculum encourages critical analysis, respect for differing perspectives, and historical and cultural awareness. Our faculty, practitioners in their fields, help students build upon their own interests and abilities to craft an individualized course of study and to pursue a meaningful livelihood. Burlington College students become lifelong learners and reflective, competent, and thoughtfully active citizens committed to a sustainable, just, and humane society. |
