Xavier University is a Jesuit college located in Cincinnati. As the sixth-oldest Catholic university in the country, it includes the Bellarmine Chapel at the center of campus for both residents and students to attend. Although Xavier doesn’t offer traditional fraternities or sororities, there are historically black Greek-letter organizations as well as many other clubs for students to join. Each fall, student groups compete in the Club Olympics, where they play games to practice team building and win prizes. Xavier athletics include many Division I sports for student athletes to choose from, but it’s best known for its men’s basketball team that plays in the NCAA Division I Atlantic 10 Conference. Although its sports team is the Musketeers, one of Xavier’s mascots is The Blue Blob, who cheers with fans at the Cintas Center arena and has appeared in a few ESPN commercials.
Unless they live with their parents nearby, Xavier students must live on campus for the first two years of school. About a quarter of undergraduate students study in the Williams College of Business, which also offers M.B.A. programs for graduate students. There are other graduate programs to choose from as well, including health fields such as clinical psychology, healthcare management, and nursing. Speaker of the House John Boehner graduated from Xavier and was once honored with a personalized Musketeer jacket at a men’s basketball game.
