Big Picture
WPI is unusual in that we don't have the normal ratio of 50% males to 50% females. Here, it is 25% females to 75% males, although in some majors, there are less than 10% females. At WPI there are generally 2 types of people: 1. the geeky people that like to play video games and hang out with each other rather than party, and 2. the jock/partiers who go out drinking a lot and often end up dropping out of WPI.
Academic Life
Although my major (Game Development) is less than 5 years old, I feel that the teachers in that field are very friendly and helpful. It would help if WPI gave some more support to the major, especially if they want to expand it because there is little help from the school in getting a job in Game Dev outside of WPI. Generally, there are smaller classes (around 30) and many of the teachers are international, which has good and bad qualities. Sometimes their accent is hard to understand, but it's interesting to have a different culture teach you.
Student Body
Outcasts and geeks are very welcome at WPI. At WPI there are generally 2 types of people: 1. the geeky people that like to play video games and hang out with each other rather than party, and 2. the jock/partiers who go out drinking a lot and often end up dropping out of WPI.
The Best Things
that it's not a party school and outcasts, nerds, geeks, etc can all feel like they belong somewhere.
The Worst Things
the prejudice you sometimes have to face for being a female in a predominately male major (over 90% males).
