School mission (as provided by the school):

UTSA is rapidly becoming a research university that continues to provide a high degree of accessibility to underserved populations, especially those of multicultural San Antonio. It has no ethnic majority but the majority of the students are in the first generation of their families to attend college. The university provides an academically supportive environment in which these first generation undergraduate students learn to do research and prepare for graduate and professional education. With over 30,000 students enrolled in 136 undergraduate and graduate degree programs, UTSA is one of the largest components in The University of Texas System and has been one of the state's fastest-growing public universities for much of the last decade.

UTSA offers 65 bachelor's, 49 master's and 22 doctoral degree programs, and with additional doctoral programs in the planning stages is rapidly moving toward classification as a doctoral/research intensive institution.

The university's three campuses provide access and opportunity for large numbers of historically underserved students. More than 55 percent of UTSA's students come from groups underrepresented in higher education. Many students are the first in their families to attend a college or university.
