School mission (as provided by the school):

Chartered in 1869, the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in one institution combines the state's land-grant and state university (member of Association of American Universities). In the university's early days, renowned educator and administrator Charles Bessey wrote the language for the Hatch Act which on a national scale helped define land-grant and extension services missions, and firmly placed Nebraska among universities whose mission is to do 'practical' research and outreach. But Nebraska also maintains a solid mission for teaching and for research in the arts and sciences, pointing us toward the traditional AAU philosophy. The University of Nebraska-Lincoln is the state's comprehensive research university.

Student Reviews

UNL is just the right size. I love that I am able to meet new students every semester and also be able to develop close relationships with the faculty. I spend my time about equally on campus and our downtown area. Lincoln's downtown area is great because it offers movie theaters, restaurants, bars, ice cream parlors, smoothie shops, and great clothing vendors. I love football Saturdays. The excitement on college game day is like nothing else I have experiences. Fans are kind to the opposing team and there is a welcoming of outsiders to Lincoln. Most schools show disrespect to fans of the opposing team, but not here in Lincoln. We pride ourselves in having and showing great sportsmanship to the fans and teams we play.

The school is a perfect size. Its not too big and its not too small. The one thing I would change is trying to get a better and bigger rec center. Nebraska is very centrally located and easy to get anywhere. The traffic of the city is not bad but its a large city. Not like living in the middle of no where. You get the city life without the crazy traffic.

i think that UNL is the perfect size of school for nebraska. Some kids come from a small town and adjusting to a larger one may be difficult. It's not too big but not too small. There are a wide variety of things that you can get involved with if you choose. I think that anyone would say that there needs to be more available parking. with the university growing somethings need to change in order to accomodate the changes. For me with the major i chose i don't have as much free time as I would like and i don't get to venture to many different parts of the campus as often as i would like but when i do i love it. i don't think i would have picked a different place to attend undergraduate school.
