Big Picture
Football is HUGE here, Saturdays are devoted to football in the fall. Academics are strict here as well, there's an entrance exam to get into the business school rather than just having a minimum gpa. The Meal Plan is great. It's won numerous awards and offers an extensive variety from salads to philly cheese steaks. School size is just right. Probably the biggest school in Georgia, and doesn't feel too large. Going to UGA is something to brag about definitely. You have high academic AND social standards. Most of your time on campus will probably be spent in the middle of the campus near the Tate student Center or Student Learning Center. Those are some new buildings where some of the general classes are being taught at. There is a LOT of school pride here and it feels great to let it all out on football weekends. Best College Town in the US. It was actually ranked by a well known magazine as #3, but I believe it is unmatched.
Academic Life
General Classes like everywhere else are big, so the professor might not know your name. You have a lot of options as far as classes go. From the hard sciences to liberal arts to business to political science. Class participation is very common. Students probably study three times a week or so. 4-5 during mid terms. And probably all week before Finals. Most unique class I've taken was an Interpersonal Communication Class. I'm a Finance Major and the business school here is in the top 20 nationally every year. Education is definitely geared towards career path rather than just getting a degree.
Student Body
It's mostly white, but you don't feel out of place here if you aren't white. Minority population is rising here and everyone pretty much goes to football and parties on the weekends together. It's a big Greek school. Athens GA is warm nearly all year long and when it's hot it's humid here. Shorts and flip flops aren't uncommon during fall, spring, and summer. Most people come from medium to high income families here. A lot of people are from Georgia but a surprising number of people are from out of state as well.
