Big Picture
The atmosphere at TCU is very welcoming. The only thing I would change is the parking situation on the campus. There are not many close or accessible parking lots to park in if you live on campus. The size of the campus is just right. It's located in a large city, but it's not a large campus. It's very easy to access public transportation to go downtown or even to Dallas. TCU's administration is amazing. Every advisor I've met with and all the professors I've had so far have been great. There is a lot of school pride at TCU. Everyone is proud to wear purple and be a Horned Frog. I will always remember Frog Camp. It was a freshman retreat before school started, and I got to meet so many new people before classes even began!
Academic Life
Professors at TCU generally make an attempt to learn your name. My favorite class was Basic Microbiology. It was an amazing class and I learned so much. My least favorite class so far is the class I had to take to fulfill my fine arts requirement. Being more of a science person, I had a bit of trouble understanding the real purpose of the class, but I can't say that it was a terrible class. My professor was very helpful and understanding, so the class did go pretty smoothly, even for being my least favorite. I think that generally, students study pretty hard outside of class and are quite competitive. The most unique class I've taken was a freshman seminar titled "Genius Minds, Broken Brains." It was an amazing class. Not only did I learn a lot about the brain, I learned quite a bit about how to successfully make it through college. The nursing major is awesome. It prepares you to sit for the board exam for your RN in four years, and it provides you with real world experience. Admittance to the nursing school is pretty competitive. TCU emphasizes learning for its own sake a lot, but being in a vocational degree major myself places getting a job a little bit ahead of that, although learning for its own sake is still strongly encouraged.
Student Body
Although TCU is predominantly white, they are working on creating a more diverse campus. No one is considered an outcast at TCU, and everyone is welcome there. Most students wear comfortable clothes to class. A majority of girls wear nike running shorts and the guys seem to be in to salmon colored clothing these days, but not everyone does this. TCU students are from all over the place, and there are a lot of international students. TCU is pretty liberal, but no one forces their political beliefs on anyone else.
