Sweet Briar College is located in Sweet Briar, Va., about 90 miles west of the state capital of Richmond. Named after a type of rose that was grown on the founding family’s estate, Sweet Briar College is a private, liberal arts institution for women that’s home to about 800 students.  At Sweet Briar College, students can pursue more than 40 majors, minors, and certificate programs, as well as master’s degrees in education and teaching.

Horseback riding is often a big part of student life at Sweet Briar College. Opportunities range from equestrian studies certificate programs to competitions, and the college has a 130-acre riding center and more than 18 miles of scenic trails on campus. Students can also get involved in more than 50 organizations and play for the Sweet Briar Vixens varsity sports teams, which compete in about six sports and are members of the NCAA Division III Old Dominion Athletic Conference. Notable Sweet Briar College alumni include Lee Cullum, the first female anchor of a daily news program, and Diana Muldaur, actress and former president of Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, which hosts the Emmy Awards.

Sweet Briar College empowers and educates young women by granting the bachelor of arts, bachelor of science, bachelor of fine arts, master of arts in teaching, and master of education degrees. The College sits on 3,250 acres, which makes it the fourth largest campus for a private, liberal arts college in the country. Sweet Briar offers more than 40 programs of study, including areas of art, business, education, humanities and science, including environmental science. Students collaborate with an exceptional faculty, working in and outside the classroom. Learning is a two-way conversation with professors who are mentors and allies.
