| Mission | |
| School mission: | Founded in 1899 as a private, liberal arts college, Tarleton State University joined the Texas A&M University System in 1917. As one of the state's fastest growing institution's, Tarleton's 168-acre main campus includes a new, three-story science facility with the A&M System's first planetarium and observatory, a new student development center, and new student housing for more than 550. Under construction are a new Student Recreational Sports facility, a new Cafeteria, and major renovations to the library and other instructional facilities. Sprinkled with hundreds of red oak, white oak, and live oak trees and immaculate landscaping, the campus is an immediate laboratory for students selecting Landscape Design and Golf Course Management careers. "Anthology," an annual student publication sponsored by the English department, provides a student forum for literary and visual expression. A recent acquisition located just 30 miles away in Granbury, is the Dora Lee Langdon Cultural and Educational Center which houses both visual and performing arts programs year round, seven days a week. The new $5 million W. K. Gordon Center for Industrial History and Museum, located in the ghost town of Thurber, is the state's newest window on Texas industrial history. Sticking close to its? liberal arts roots, Tarleton recently added two endowed chairs; one in industrial history, and a second chair in contemporary American history. The faculty and administration includes: 3 Fulbright scholars; 1 Oxford Roundtable recipient; and 2 Regents Professors. Over 90 different majors are offered at the baccalaureate, masters, and doctoral levels through six academic colleges: Liberal and Fine Arts, Business Administration, Agriculture and Human Sciences, Science and Technology, Education, and Graduate Studies. |
