School mission: Overview Arkansas State University in Jonesboro (ASUJ) is a comprehensive state-wide institution of higher education offering top-quality academic programs to students from throughout the United States and the world. Arkansas State University in Jonesboro celebrates its 100th anniversary during the 2009-10 academic year. Arkansas State became a reality April 1, 1909 as an agricultural high school and earned university status in 1967. ASUJ's mission is to educate leaders, enhance intellectual growth and enrich lives. Dedicated to teaching, research and service, the university powers the minds of students with the broad educational foundations that help develop critical thinking and analytical skills, decision-making capabilities, and communication skills. Academics Arkansas State University offers 44 degree programs and 171 fields of study at the doctoral, specialist, masters, bachelors and associate degree levels in 11 colleges. The university is the state's leading provider of nursing graduates, early childhood educators and agriculture business graduates. In addition, ASUJ has top-ranked programs in journalism, radio-television and speech communication.
