As Maryland's public honors college, St. Mary's College of Maryland offers an undergraduate, liberal arts education and small-college experience like those found at exceptional private colleges. As a public college, St. Mary's embraces students from diverse backgrounds and experiences. As an honors college, St. Mary's has outstanding faculty, talented students, high academic standards, a challenging curriculum, small classes, a sense of community, and a spirit of intellectual inquiry. The Core Curriculum includes first-year seminars and an opportunity to study abroad at the same cost as remaining on campus for the semester. Located in Historic St. Mary's City, it is small (approximately 2,000 students on campus), with 86% of its full-time undergraduate students living on campus. A spectacular waterfront setting in the heart of Chesapeake Bay region, within a 2-hour drive of Washington, D.C. and Baltimore, enhances the uniqueness of St. Mary's College of Maryland.
