Founded in 1864, St. Louis College of Pharmacy is the fourth oldest and 10th largest college of pharmacy in America, and it provides innovative education, research, and career opportunities for students. The College integrates the liberal arts and sciences with a professional curriculum and introductory and advanced practice experiences where students can develop expertise and become leaders in the profession and their communities. The College prepares its students to practice in all fields of pharmacy: community or hospital pharmacy, managed care, consultant pharmacy, the pharmaceutical industry, military, academia, or pharmacy associations. Beginning in 2014, the seven-year curriculum leading to a Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree will also include a Bachelor of Science. The College admits students directly from high school and accepts transfer students and graduates from other colleges and universities. More than 1,250 students are currently enrolled from 30 states and several countries. The College's 6,800 alumni practice throughout the nation and in 13 different countries, providing a strong network to assist students with their goals. Approximately 73 percent of St. Louis-area pharmacists are College graduates. The St. Louis College of Pharmacy campus is located in the city's Central West End, surrounded by one of the world's finest biomedical research and patient-care centers, including Barnes-Jewish Hospital, Washington University School of Medicine, Siteman Cancer Center, and St. Louis Children's Hospital. The campus is also one block from Forest Park with its 1,300 acres of green space, tennis courts, outdoor ice rink, golf course, and world-class museums, zoo, outdoor opera theater, and science center. Students at the College are near the cultural and entertainment scene of St. Louis on a safe, 8-acre campus within walking distance of public transportation.
