School mission and unique qualities (as provided by the school):

Founded in 1931, St. Catharine College focuses on combining the strengths of a well-rounded liberal arts education with sound professional preparation for the future. When students graduate from St. Catharine College, they are equipped to pursue the career of their choice, to be productive citizens and leaders, and to be lifelong learners. We are especially proud of our over 98 percent placement rate for our health science graduates. Our Field Based Teacher Education Program is known statewide for the excellence of the teachers we graduate each year. This approach has become a model for the state. In fact all St. Catharine programs, such as Management, Marketing, Life Sciences, English, Fine Arts, Criminal Justice, and Liberal Arts feature the opportunity for internships and travel beyond the classroom. The Berry Center of New Castle, Kentucky and St. Catharine College have recently partnered to provide a vital, interdisciplinary degree program in farming and ecological agrarianism. The program will embed academic coursework with fieldwork and immersion experiences, using nature as the standard, in an effort to bring awareness, knowledge and cohesiveness to students interested in farming, rural communities, local economies, agriculture, geographical sustainability, and stewardship for the land. This program will continue the passion of Kentucky author Wendell Berry, his father, John M. Berry, Sr., a lawyer, farmer and co-author of the Burley Tobacco Program, and his brother, John M. Berry, Jr., lawyer, state senator and farmer and the life-long focus they have placed on conservation, farming, and the economic and human health of local communities. St. Catharine College is a Catholic institution which lives by the Four Dominican Pillars of Prayer, Study, Community and Ministry, but all who study, teach, or work here are not Catholic. We embrace Christian principles while welcoming individuals of all religious traditions. The student body, over 1000 students from 52 counties in Kentucky, 27 states, and ten countries, is divided almost equally among Catholics, Baptists, and persons of other faiths, and there is an ecumenical feeling that celebrates faith in its many forms. The college is a member of the nationally recognized NAIA Mid-south Conference and offers a wide range of mens' and womens' sports and is competitive at the national level. Outstanding collegiate level athletic fields in soccer, baseball, softball, track and field, and tennis are prominent on campus. The college boasts modern residence halls including Aquinas Hall which opened in the Fall of 2011 with apartment-style facilities for upper-classmen. The campus features excellent professional health and science laboratories, modern classrooms, quality food and will see the completion of a state of the art library which will become the intellectual heart of the campus. Located in a scenic and calm small town environment, the College is, at the same time, directly accessible to the hustle and bustle of cites such as Louisville, Lexington and Cincinnati. At St. Catharine you will find small classes, a dedicated faculty who will know your name and a supportive administrative and academic support staff dedicated to your success. A balanced plan of academic, athletic and need-based financial support is available. Students are now able to continue their experience at St. Catharine in the new Master of Arts in Leadership program which focuses on preparing effective, ethical and knowledgeable leaders for organizations and communities. St. Catharine College is a place where success thrives: where you can explore, grow and learn who you are and who you will become. We prepare students to be lifelong learners who are motivated to explore new ideas and opportunities. St. Catharine College provides a welcoming environment in which students can develop a sense of responsibility for themselves, their community and a just society.
