Summary

Southern New Hampshire University is a private institution that was founded in 1932. It has a total undergraduate enrollment of 7,351, its setting is suburban, and the campus size is 288 acres. It utilizes a semester-based academic calendar. Its tuition and fees are $28,050 (2012-13).

Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU), based in Manchester, offers a variety of options for students to complete a degree. Undergraduates have more than 100 degree programs to choose from. In addition to traditional day courses, SNHU also offers evening and weekend schedules, online programs, and a hybrid combination of online and classroom learning. Through the College Unbound@SNHU program, students can earn a bachelor of arts in integrated studies in three years, completing assignments both on and off campus, as well as apprenticeships and internships.

At SNHU, there are more than 50 student organizations to check out, as well as about 200 annual, school-sponsored events, from music and comedy shows to off-campus trips. The Southern New Hampshire University Penmen, which symbolize colonials from the Revolutionary War era, compete in the NCAA Division II Northeast-10 Conference. In addition to its main campus in Manchester, SNHU has sites in the New Hampshire locales of Nashua, Salem, and Portsmouth and in the Maine locales of Brunswick and Lewiston-Auburn.

School mission and unique qualities (as provided by the school):

The prevailing conventional wisdom at Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU) has always been that there are no limits to what students can achieve. As an institution, there are seemingly no limits to what SNHU can achieve as well.
SNHU has been named the 12th most innovative company in the world by Fast Company, trailing huge global brands like Apple, Facebook and HBO, but ranking ahead of industry giants like the NFL, Starbucks and LinkedIn. SNHU was the only educational institution on the list, an impressive achievement for a university that is committed to consistently reinventing the way that education is delivered and received.

Academic programs are created with the real world in mind, so students are prepared to launch successful careers when they graduate. Classes are taught by highly credentialed faculty who have professional experience and remain current in their fields. Academic and personal support is readily available, both inside and outside the classroom. If students need help, faculty and staff will rally around them quickly.

The University operates on the belief that college should change students' lives, not break the bank; a private university education should be affordable. That's why financial aid has been increased. Students with high school GPAs of 2.5 and higher may receive up to $18,000 in grants and scholarships. About 90 percent of the students at SNHU receive some kind of financial aid.

The University has just over 2,500 traditional, full-time, undergraduate students, with a total enrollment in all divisions (day, evening, weekend, and online undergraduate and graduate students) of over 10,000. Programs are offered on campus, on location at the University's centers in New Hampshire and Maine, and online. SNHU offers undergraduate programs in business, culinary arts, education, hospitality, and liberal arts and graduate programs in business, community economic development, education, and hospitality.

SNHU is the first carbon-neutral school in New Hampshire. The wireless campus features a new academic center, a new dining hall, new dorms and apartment buildings, a simulated stock trading room, multimedia classrooms, an auditorium, the museum-quality McIninch Art Gallery, virtual science labs, technology-ready buildings, a library with resources that can be accessed via the Internet, a fitness center that rivals 'members-only' gyms, athletic fields, cooking labs, a bakery, and an award-winning, student-run restaurant.

Students can participate in one of the University's more than 50 student clubs or start new ones. Intercollegiate teams compete in Division II of the NCAA, and the Northeast-10 Conference. Sports include baseball, men's and women's basketball, cheerleading, men's and women's cross-country, golf, ice hockey, men's and women's lacrosse, men's and women's soccer, softball, men's and women's tennis, and volleyball. Intramural sports, including basketball, flag football, indoor soccer, and volleyball, also are extremely popular. SNHU's powerful athletic teams dominate on the field'and in the classroom. The University's student-athletes earned honors from the NCAA and USA Today for high grades and 100 percent graduation rates.

Athletic facilities include an indoor, 25-meter, competition-size swimming pool; a racquetball court; an aerobic studio; cardiovascular equipment; four outdoor lighted tennis courts; a soccer/lacrosse turf field; baseball and softball fields; and two indoor gymnasiums with four basketball courts and areas for indoor soccer, indoor tennis, volleyball, and many other activities. The fitness center features 4,000 square feet of strength equipment and a 1,500-square-foot cardio deck.
