Big Picture

I think the size of our school is great because you can actually see people you know on campus, but at the same time there are 10,000 people on campus you can always meet someone new. SMU is right in highland park but it gives you complete access to downtown Dallas without having to actually be downtown. there's pretty much anything you could possibly need right around campus. our biggest controversy recently was the drug task force that took place after 3 of our students died last year. there are drugs and alcohol on our campus just like everywhere else, but i honestly don't believe its more than anywhere else, our school just wants to actually do something about it but most people think nothing will really be accomplished by that. people are proud to go to SMU, it's a great school.

Academic Life

class sizes are actually really great because your intro classes are probably anywhere between 75-150 people so they're bigger than other classes but you're not sitting in a class of 500 people getting completely lost. most teachers are extremely willing to help you if you do your work, but there are high standards of expectations in that they want you to take responsibility for yourself. i am a finance major and the connections that you can make at SMU through faculty or alumni open up a world of opportunity after college. i truly think one of the greatest attributes academically of SMU is its ability to create connections, especially in texas.

Student Body

SMU's student body is decently diverse but the majority of people you see on campus fall into three categories. there is the students involved in greek life who attend class like everyday is a fashion show or with the greek apparel on. there are the athletes who are also fairly easy to identify. and then there is everyone else on campus who just looks like your average college student. yes the majority of SMU's student body comes from a more affluent background, but there are actually lots of people on scholarship. greek life is a huge deal at SMU, always has been and always will be we are definetly in the south and in texas and it shows.
