South Carolina State University is a historically Black 1890 Land-Grant university whose students excel in the arts, sciences, education, and armed services. Its land-grant programs provide outreach services across the state. SCSU's special strengths are its affordability and its history of providing a nurturing environment that allows its 'diamonds in the rough' (i.e. those students who are not as academically prepared as their counterparts who enroll at State or in other institutions) to become 'polished jewels' (nationally competitive). Through staff support and faculty instruction, research and service, our graduates are highly skilled and competent to meet life's challenges. |
