Mission
School mission: St. Gregory's University has a bold vision: Building the Kingdom of God through education in the Catholic and Benedictine tradition. The Benedictine tradition emphasizes a life of balance fostered in community, and so welcomes students from a variety of backgrounds. A 4-semester, chronologically ordered sequence of discussion-based seminars required of all freshmen and sophomores in which students will wrestle with some of the most influential texts and ideas of the Western and Catholic intellectual traditions. (A modified 2-semester sequence is required of all transfer students who arrive at SGU with more than 45 credits.) Each seminar group (14-16 students) will meet weekly for an 80 minute session. Four times throughout the semester, all students enrolled in each seminar level will gather for a 75 minute public lecture/presentation designed to provide important background (historical, philosophical, literary, cultural) for upcoming readings. Extracurricular activities include 11 varsity athletic teams, an active performing arts program, active roles in campus ministry, and many opportunities for leadership. The Buckley Outreach Team presents retreats and workshops exploring the Catholic faith and life for high school youth in Oklahoma and surrounding states. St. Gregory's University also provides adult accelerated degree programs, at the Associate, Bachelor and Master levels, through the College for Working Adults at the Shawnee campus and in Tulsa.
