School mission and unique qualities (as provided by the school):

Founded in 1923, Schreiner University is a private liberal arts university nestled in the beautiful Texas Hill Country in Kerrville, a 60-minute drive from San Antonio.

Primarily undergraduate, Schreiner offers a personalized, integrated education that prepares its students for meaningful work and purposeful lives in a changing global society.

A supportive university community is a tradition at Schreiner, with professors who excel in the art of teaching, a shared commitment to each student's success, and a campus life that builds lifelong friendships.

One measure of educational value is the amount of personal attention students receive from their professors, and they're getting their money's worth at Schreiner. While enrollment has grown to 1,117, the student-teacher ratio is kept at 13:1. All classes are small and most have fewer than 20 students. And there are no teaching assistants at Schreiner- all classes are taught by experienced and fully qualified faculty.

Schreiner awards baccalaureate degrees, as well as two masters degrees, and offers 27 undergraduate majors and programs of study: accounting, biochemistry, biology, business, chemistry, communication studies, creative arts, education, engineering 3/2, English, exercise science, finance, general studies, graphic design, history, humanities, information systems, management, marketing, mathematics, music, nursing (BSN), political science, psychology, religion, sport management and theatre, in addition to pre-dentistry, pre-law, pre-medicine, pre-optometry, pre-pharmacy, pre-seminary and pre-veterinary science programs.

Schreiner's graduate programs include Master of Business Administration and Master of Education. Schreiner's Master of Education degree is distinctive in that its students graduate in only one year attending class on campus one Saturday per month and participate in online instruction. No night classes. No weekday classes. Schreiner's MBA degree is designed as a two-year program; classes meets on campus two days a week and the rest is online.

Schreiner takes prides in being accessible to most students, even those whose families' financial resources are very limited. Ninety-nine percent of Schreiner's freshmen have received some form of financial aid and the average institutional aid package for full-time undergraduates is more than $8,000. Most find the actual cost of a Schreiner education very close to what they would pay at a Texas public 4-year school.

Schreiner also offers a rich campus life with more than 35 student organizations that encourage students to develop leadership skills and to apply classroom knowledge to real life challenges.

Related by covenant to the Presbyterian Church (USA), Schreiner welcomes students of all faiths. Schreiner's vibrant Campus Ministry program supports a variety of faith- and denomination-based student groups.

One in three Schreiner undergraduates participates in intercollegiate athletics, competing in Division III NCAA American Southwest Conference sports: basketball, baseball, soccer, tennis, softball, golf, volleyball and cross-country.

Within the last decade, Schreiner has spent nearly $40 million building and upgrading facilities. A series of new student residence halls have been constructed and the Mountaineer Fitness Center opened Spring 2009.

At Schreiner University, "Learning by Heart" is more than an expression; it embodies the experience of learning with your whole being.
