Mission
School mission: Angelo State University provides an education in value, both in the quality for the cost and in the low average debt burden students accrue in securing an Angelo State degree. ASU remains an affordable institution with a superb record of sending graduates on to medical, law and professional school. ASU maintains strong academic programs in traditional fields such as physics, biology, mathematics, education, business, agriculture and nursing while developing such innovative offerings as the computer gaming design sequence through computer science. Graduates leave ASU with an average debt burden that is 31 percent below the state of Texas average and lower than every state average but one nationally. This is possible because of the university's strong gift aid program, including the Carr Scholarship Program, which annually awards more than $3 million in scholarships, benefiting one in every six ASU students. Additionally, ASU offers its Blue and Gold Guarantee program for students from low income families as well as the Graduation Incentive Program which pays students to graduate in four years. ASU also offers special scholarships to students with 900-1100 SAT and 21-24 ACT scores. Because of its low 19:1 student-faculty ratio and individualized instruction, ASU attracts many first-generation students, who benefit from special programs and scholarships. Almost a quarter of the student body is Hispanic, enhancing the university's overall diversity. A strong Honors Program and numerous opportunities for international study enhance the college experience on the 268-acre Angelo State campus known for its safety and modern academic and recreational facilities.
