Mission
School mission: Rockford College's mission is to educate men and women to lead responsible productive lives by means of a curriculum grounded in liberal arts learning and complemented and extended by professional and practical experiences. Through the total academic and co-curricular experience, Rockford College strives to prepare students for fulfilling lives, careers, and participation in a modern and changing global society. At Rockford College we have a vision to be Jane Addams' college in the 21st century. By that, we signal an aspiration to live, learn and work in a contemporary way that honors the principles of Jane Addams, the distinguished 1881 graduate of the college who founded Hull House in Chicago and became the first American woman to receive the Nobel Peace Prize. Long before Miss Addams won the 1931 Nobel Peace Prize, she was a Rockford College student. Today, we are still educating students like Jane, activists, intellectuals, humanitarians, and peacemakers. Our liberal arts program is designed for those rare individuals who have a vision for changing the world, who care about social action and public service. We are looking for students who share our passion for social justice and civic engagement. At Rockford, our students are not preparing to make a difference in the world. They are making a difference now. Rockford College offers: accredited university-level courses, fewer than 20 students per class, state-of-the-art wireless Internet, more than 70 majors, minors and concentrations, easy access to Chicago, on-campus housing and food service. Rockford College has a rich history of encouraging students to become engaged and active citizens in our community. Students who join Rockford College become part of a 162 year tradition and they use their time here to take part in the myriad opportunities that will come their way, on campus and off. Whether it is in a classroom, on an athletic team, in our theater, as a volunteer for a community service project or through experiences studying abroad, we hope that our students' time at Rockford College is memorable and meaningful. Students at Rockford College today, like Jane Addams before them, think critically, act compassionately, and embrace the ideals of citizenship. If you share our commitment to critical thinking and compassionate action, we invite you to join us.
