School mission and unique qualities (as provided by the school):

A private university in Pittsburgh's suburban hills, Robert Morris University is set on a 230-acre former estate that is a short drive from the cultural and commercial opportunities of a major city. Founded in 1921, RMU offers more than sixty undergraduate programs and twenty graduate programs, many of which are also offered partly or fully online, providing its 5,200 students academic excellence with a professional focus. The university built its reputation in the business fields of accounting, finance, marketing, and management. It has grown to include programs in communications, information systems, engineering, mathematics, science, education, social sciences, and nursing. RMU uses a Student Engagement Transcript to document internships, service-learning activities, study abroad, leadership roles, and other learning outside the classroom. This focus on engaged learning contributes to the 95 percent placement rate of graduates in careers or graduate school within six months of graduation. RMU is a teaching-centered institution, featuring small classes taught by professors and a student-faculty ratio of 15:1. The campus is growing, with a new school of business building unveiled in 2011, a new communications and information systems center opened in 2012, and a new nursing simulation center in the design stage. RMU added two additional residence halls in 2011 to accommodate its rising student population. More than 80 percent of freshmen live in campus housing. Visiting international scholars and a variety of opportunities to study abroad for a semester or a few weeks enrich students global perspectives. Students can participate in any of nearly 100 clubs and organizations. The Student Life Office organizes dances, parties, movie screenings, comedy acts, health and wellness fairs, educational programs, and day trips. Business organizations, professional clubs, and honor societies provide students with career preparation opportunities. The university's competitive athletics program fields 23 NCAA Division I teams, and the Colonials have won numerous titles and championships. Football and basketball draw enthusiastic crowds to Joe Walton Stadium and the Charles Sewall Center, allowing students to show their school spirit. The regions only Division I mens and womens ice hockey teams play at 84 Lumber Arena in the RMU Island Sports Center, a 32-acre sports and recreation complex with two ice rinks, two multipurpose rinks, an indoor golf driving range, a miniature golf course, a pro shop, and a restaurant and banquet facility. Students can also participate in a number of club and intramural sports on campus. Robert Morris University is committed to the mission of changing the lives of its students, and empowering them to go into the world to change the lives of others.
