Ramapo College of New Jersey is a public liberal arts school located on the northern edge of the state, in the town of Mahwah. Undergraduates at Ramapo can choose from about 40 programs in five schools, and graduate students can earn master’s degrees in nursing, liberal studies, sustainable studies, educational leadership, and educational technology. At the end of each semester, during the week of final exams, Ramapo College students can take a break from studying and visit the student center. The student center staff eases students’ stress by offering goodie bags of snacks to go, coupons for late-night dining, free copies of school-related material, and free beverages.

Besides academics, Ramapo students can get involved on campus by joining more than 100 student organizations and pledging with more than 25 fraternities and sororities. Ramapo also offers many opportunities for students to explore campus media through the school’s own television channel, radio station, literary magazine, and newspaper. Student athletes play at the intramural level or try out for the many Ramapo College Roadrunners varsity sports teams, which compete in the NCAA Division III in various conferences.

Ramapo College of New Jersey is sometimes mistaken for a private college. This is, in part, due to its unique interdisciplinary academic structure, its size of just over 5,800 students, and its pastoral setting. Ramapo offers bachelor's degrees in the arts, business, humanities, social sciences and the sciences, master's degrees in business, educational leadership, educational technology, liberal arts, nursing, and sustainability studies. Certificate programs are offered in professional studies including teachers education, sustainability leadership, and nursing education. Ramapo has articulation programs at the bachelor's, master's and doctoral levels in the health and medical fields. Ramapo offers these joint programs in partnership with the University of Medicine and Dentistry (UMDNJ), New York Chiropractic College, the State University of New York (SUNY), New York University College of Dentistry, and New York College of Podiatric Medicine.
Ramapo boasts an average student faculty ratio of 17 to 1. The average class size of 23 affords students the opportunity to develop close ties to Ramapo's exceptional faculty. Approx. 94 percent of fulltime faculty hold terminal degrees in their field.
In May 2010, Ramapo was reaccredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education. January 2011, Ramapo earned accreditation from the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. Ramapo is consistently recognized by many college-ranking organizations for it's high standings in the Carnegie-classification of Public Master's Colleges and Universities (medium-size programs).
