Student Reviews

This school is the perfect size and the grounds are mantained beautifully. Every effort is made to assure that everything about this campus appears to be wonderful to visitors. Alot of the time I feel like the manicured trees, lawns, and high tech equiptment are used to lure in perspective students, but do not necessarily benefit the students who go here. The addition of more students to the campus than the school can actually accomodate is a growing problem. While I admit that this school is growing in leaps and bounds (with the completion of new dorm buildings, expansion of the cafeteria, and the new York Hill campus), QU's eyes may have been bigger than its stomach so to speak. It is a nice place to live and the dorms are better than most I have ever seen on a college campus. There is a type of housing for every kind of student. One of my favorite things about Quinnipiac is when the weather gets nice at the end of the semester it is common to see students reading and hanging out of the quad and others playing wiffle ball and frisbee.

The campus is gorgeous, well-groomed. The faculty are well-trained and most have high reputations and degrees, outside of QU. On campus, most social life occurs in dorm rooms, but people are somewhat exclusive and clique-y. Off campus, most social life occurs in houses. On Thursdays and Saturdays, social life happens in nearby New Haven, where kids go to clubs. Bars are not aspopular til junior or senior year. There are several in Hamden but they are relatively strict about IDs. Hamden isn't much of a college town - no walking streets, cafes, little shops or small restaurants. There's the typical TGIFridays, Applebees, WalMart, grocery stores, Marshalls, TJMax, Old Navy. Most complaints are about the trendy-ness, cliquey-ness, and expensive cost of QU.

QU is in a great location on a very beautiful campus. We're only 1.5 hours from NYC, minutes from New Haven, and 2 hours from Boston. Overall school pride is fairly low, and interest in sports is hit or miss ... our hockey games are the most talked about and well-attended events on campus all year. Most of your time will be spent partying in Village or Mountainview, and if you don't like to party, this really is not the place for you. The same holds true if you want diversity; a very small percentage of the population is minority. There's a lot of hubbub on campus recently about the school newspaper publishing derogatory statements about the administration, and both the students and administration are currently at odds with each other. There is also a sense of "disconnect" between students and the administration.
