Mission
School mission: Founded in 1860 by Franciscan Friars, Quincy University has provided education in the Catholic, Franciscan tradition of clear ideas, strong faith and new friends for nearly 150 years. Quincy University's campus offers a combination of simplistic living and modern technology. The classic architecture of Francis Hall includes high ceilings, gorgeous woodwork and the beautiful artwork inside the chapel. Smart classrooms and a wireless campus keep students on the cutting edge of technology. The average class size is 20. The student-faculty ratio is 14-to-1. Four master's programs, thirty-four undergraduate majors, eight pre-professional programs and numerous minors are offered, with the following degrees available: bachelor of arts, bachelor of science, bachelor of fine arts, bachelor of science in nursing, bachelor of science in aviation, master of business administration, master of science in education, master of science in school or community counseling, and master of theological studies. The Professional Degree Program is tailored to the lifestyle of the working adult who is trying to complete a bachelor's. Students may complete a bachelor's degree in business administration, criminal justice, elementary education, and human services. QU offers extensive internship programs, nationally recognized pre-law and mock trial programs, an on-campus national public radio station, innovative entrepreneurship courses, an elementary education reading center, NCAA Division II athletics, music and theater ensembles, campus ministry programs, and more than 30 active student organizations. A state-of-the art Health and Fitness center is open to the public and students. The Brenner Library holds more than 208,000 books, including a rare book collection of 22,000 volumes most dating from 1820 to 1950. The library also houses archives of university and local history. The library provides reference services, research instruction, and interlibrary loan services. Art displays are regularly exhibited in the library's Gray Gallery. As a Franciscan institution, QU offers numerous service and related educational opportunities. Through campus ministry efforts, students complete thousands of service hours yearly. Many of those hours are performed during spring break trips to assist the disadvantaged throughout the country. QU also makes regular mission trips to Haiti. Specific Franciscan studies courses are available to students, which focus on ethics, spirituality, theology and environmental topics. An Assisi Experience course culminates with a pilgrimage to Assisi, Italy, every other year. Campus visits are available Monday through Friday between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. For more information: Call (217) 222-8020 of (800) 688-4295, Web site: http://www.quincy.edu.
