OHSU is the state's only health and research university. It is unlike any other institution in Oregon. It provides an uncommon array of services and care not available through any other resource in the state.

OHSU also is Oregon's only academic health center, which means it has the multifaceted, interwoven responsibility of providing healing, teaching, research and community service. It is one of only approximately 100 such institutions in the nation.

OHSU includes the schools of dentistry, medicine, nursing, and science and engineering; two hospitals; multiple clinical care practices; dozens of research institutes and centers; and more than 200 community service programs.

The university is the state's primary resource for training tomorrow's health professionals, scientists and biomedical engineers, and partners with other Oregon institutions to provide important allied health health training. Is is the only place in Oregon that grants doctoral degrees in medicine, dentistry and nursing. And OHSU is the only academic health center in the nation with a school of science and engineering focused exclusively on human and environmental health.
