Big Picture
The best thing about NCSU is that it is a place you can feel welcome. I visited many other campuses before NCSU, and the big difference between NCSU and the other colleges was that I felt I could truly find my place at NC State. The environment is welcoming, the student body is diverse enough to fit any lifestyle, and the opportunities are huge. However, NCSU may not be for those who do not like big schools. NCSU has an enormous population, which is a positive for me. However, it may not be for others seeking smaller schools. I spend most of my time on campus in the library. My major is one which requires constant studying, and most of my free time is spent in the library doing such. Another great thing about NCSU is its intense school pride. While there are many students who choose not to participate in school spirit, the majority of the population constantly shows a school spirit that cannot be matched. Having a student body that is so invested in their school makes the atmosphere much more enjoyable for those who love having school pride.
Academic Life
Academics at NCSU vary for every major. Some majors are easier than others, while some majors seem impossible to complete. During my freshman year, I had a mixture of terrible professors who I could not learn from and teachers I wish I could learn from the rest of my life. Every class may have a good professor or bad professor. I am a pre-med zoology major, which is in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. In my opinion it is a challenging major, because the competition to get into medical school is fierce. I spend most of my time studying or going to class. I enjoy the challenge though, and the classes I have taken thus far for my major have been tough but worth taking.
Student Body
There are so many opportunities to meet people of diverse religions, backgrounds, races, and groups on NCSU's campus. NCSU is a big supporter of diversity and culture. I honestly believe that no student would feel out of place on NCSU's campus. That is what makes NCSU so great. The emphasis NCSU puts on diversity means any student can feel welcome and can find their place. Every student is different in some way. The cliques that existed in high school are no longer prevalent once you take a look around NCSU. Although most students are from various places around the United States, there are also many people from foreign countries that decide to attend NC State. I have met people from Egypt, Pakistan, Lebanon, Trinidad, and many other places just during my freshman year. Also, because of NCSU's big financial aid program, people of every kind of financial background are present.
