School mission: Founded in 1847, The City College of New York (CCNY) is the oldest of the City University's twenty institutions of higher learning, enrolling over 15,400 students in graduate and undergraduate programs in Liberal Arts and Science, Architecture, Engineering, Education and Biomedical Education. CCNY is making major investments in new buildings for Science and Architecture. In Fall 2008, CCNY started offering Ph.D. degrees in Engineering. CCNY has one of the most diverse student bodies in America,representing some 153 countries. In Fall 2008, 99 languages other than English were spoken at CCNY. The College is ranked among the top 12 nationally in graduates who have gone on to earn doctorates and is internationally known for the research activities of its faculty, which received grant support totaling over $46 million dollars in 2007/2008.
