| School mission: | Loyola University New Orleans is a Catholic institution that emphasizes the Jesuit tradition of educating the whole person and is open to students of all faiths. Loyola consistently ranks among top regional colleges and universities in the South and as one of the top 60 in the United States in U.S. News & World Report's "America's Best Colleges". Princeton Review ranks Monroe Library as one of the Top 10 college libraries in the country, in company with Harvard and Princeton. PROGRAMS: Loyola offers 60 undergraduate and 10 master programs in the Colleges of Humanities & Natural Sciences, Social Sciences, Law, Business, and Music & Fine Arts, and has study abroad programs in more than 40 countries. Our faculty have received prestigious national awards including Pulitzer Prize nominations, book reviews in The New York Times, the O. Henry Award, and international scientific recognition. Student to faculty ratio is 11:1. Loyola is the proud home of the Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz Performance, the most prestigious jazz graduate program in the world. CAMPUS: New Orleans is Loyola's extended campus, a city rich in its heritage of art, culture, and history. Located in one of the city's most prestigious residential neighborhoods, the campus is 20 minutes away from downtown and the French Quarter. The 2008 March issue of Reader's Digest listed Loyola as one of the safest universities in the country for its safety record. There are four undergraduate residence halls on campus; some offer several living-learning communities and affinity floors as well as educational and social programming. STUDENT LIFE: Our Sports Complex has multipurpose courts for basketball, tennis, racquetball, volleyball, soccer, floor hockey, an Olympic-style pool, jogging track, and a weight-lifting and cardio conditioning areas. Our Wolfpack intercollegiate athletic teams compete in the NAIA Div. I as members of the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference in Men and Women's Basketball, Cross-Country and Track, Women's Volleyball and Men's Baseball. Loyola has more than 120 recognized student organizations: The Greek community consists of 15 different organizations, encompassing 20% of the undergraduate population. Others include academic clubs and honor societies, fine and performing arts organizations, diversity groups, faith and community, and special interest opportunities. Loyola offers great ways to be actively involved in community service projects. The Corporation for National & Community Service named Loyola to the President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll for its '06-'07 community service activities. COLLEGES: The College of Music & Fine Arts serves as the preeminent center of fine and performing arts study among all Jesuit universities throughout the U.S. The $13 million Communications/Music Complex is an 115,000-sq.ft. building with state-of-the-art facilities. The College of Business is one of only 405 business schools worldwide accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. The College of Humanities & Natural Sciences provides opportunities for students to work with professors on research projects in the sciences and collaborative ventures in humanities disciplines. Projects range from National Science Foundation research grants, collaborative research papers, to student assistantships. The College of Social Sciences educates students broadly in the arts and sciences to gain a solid knowledge and understanding of their chosen majors and to graduate using their knowledge and abilities in the service of others. The College of Law offers both civil law and common law curriculums, full time day and part-time evening programs, as well as five joint degree programs.
