Chartered in 1824, the Medical University of South Carolina has expanded from a small private college for the training of physicians to a state university with a medical center and six colleges for the education of a broad range of health professionals, biomedical scientists and other health related personnel. Since its inception the University has awarded more than 26,000 degrees. MUSC is a publicly supported academic health center with colleges of Dental Medicine, Graduate Studies, Health Professions, Medicine, Nursing, and Pharmacy, and a referral and teaching hospital as well as area clinics.
