In sports, the Mount St. Mary’s athletic squads, known simply as The Mount, compete in the NCAA Division I Northeast Conference (NEC). Notable alumni of Mount St. Mary’s University include Susan O’Malley, former president of the Washington Wizards team and the first female president of an NBA franchise, and Scott Wilfong, president and CEO of SunTrust Bank.

Mount St. Mary's, the second oldest Catholic university in the United States, offers more than 60 academic majors, minors and concentrations that complement the University's distinctive core curriculum. Mount students participate in more than 70 clubs and honor societies as well as 19 varsity sports at the NCAA Division I level. Graduate programs are offered in Business, Education, Philosophy, Theology and Divinity. Accelerated undergraduate programs in business and criminal justice are offered off-campus in Frederick, MD. The campus is located on 1,400 acres near historic Emmitsburg, Maryland.
