Mount Mercy is the regional Catholic, Mercy University and promises students of diverse backgrounds, ages and faiths a challenging, practical education that inspires them to discover knowledge, build community and lead courageous lives. Mount Mercy is the only Catholic, Mercy University in Iowa. Founded in 1928 by the Sisters of Mercy and open to all faiths its lovely,wooded campus is located in the heart of historic Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The campus is just 30 minutes from Iowa City, and 4 hours from Chicago, Minneapolis/St. Paul, Omaha, and St. Louis. Mount Mercy offers baccalaureate and graduate education to more than 1,800 enrolled students, uniquely blending liberal arts learning with professional career development and a strong commitment to serving the common good. Undergraduates can choose from among more than 40 majors and minors and strong programs in biology, business, criminal justice, education, English, psychology and nursing. Graduate programs in business, education, marriage and family therapy, and nursing provide graduate degrees for professionals looking to advance their careers. Dedicated faculty members inspire students to lead and serve, made easier with small classes and a student-teacher ratio of 13:1. An emphasis on internships and research connects students to experiential learning opportunities with internationally known corporations such as Rockwell Collins and Transamerica as well as projects with University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, The Nature Conservancy, and East Central Iowa Council of Governments. Students also uncover opportunities for study abroad with programs with Palacky University in the Czech Republic, Canterbury Christ Church University in England, University of Stirling in Scotland and more. Students on "the Mount" benefit from a vibrant campus environment and active student life. Mount Mercy is a great place to be a student-athlete, succeeding in the classroom and on the field. Our intercollegiate teams, the Mount Mercy Mustangs, compete in the NAIA Division II as members of the Midwest Collegiate Conference. The Mustangs own more than 40 conference championships and 43 NAIA National tournament appearances. If you enjoy competition in a less structured environment, try intramural sports like basketball, volleyball, golf, flag football, and softball, or choose from more than 40 campus clubs and organizations. Mount Mercy students also give more than 12,000 hours per year to service projects all over the country. One hundred percent of freshmen students receive financial assistance. Within six months of graduation, more than 96 percent of Mount Mercy students are employed or in graduate school. 97 percent of Mount Mercy alumni repay their student loans on time.
