Mission  
School mission: Mississippi State University, a land-grant and sea-grant institution founded in 1878, is a Carnegie Research University (high research activity) institution and the largest university in Mississippi. MSU enrolls approximately 17,000 students, 20 percent of whom are graduate students; has slightly less than 1,100 full-time faculty members and more than 4,100 total full-time employees; has total revenues of approximately $500 million; and has research expenditures of more than $190 million.
