Mission
School mission: Curry College is a 130-year old, private, four-year, liberal arts-based institution located on 137 acres in Milton, MA. The institutional mission of the College is to develop liberally educated persons who are able to gain and to apply knowledge humanely, intelligently, and effectively in a complex, changing world. To achieve its mission, Curry College promotes individual intellectual and social growth by engaging its students in achieving these educational goals: Thinking Critically; Communicating Effectively; Understanding Context; Appreciating Aesthetic Experience; Defining a Personal Identity; Examining Value Systems; and Adapting and Innovating. Curry is recognized as a world-leading college for individualized education by focusing on the particular learning needs of each student with an average class size of 20 students and a student/faculty ratio of 12:1. The College offers 20 majors and 65-plus minors and concentrations leading to undergraduate degrees in specialized and liberal arts programs as well as graduate degrees in business, education and criminal justice, with a combined enrollment of approximately 4,100 students. The student body consists of approximately 2,000 traditional students, 1,650 continuing education and 450 graduate students. Curry College students come from 40 states and 23 countries. Over 1,450 of its students reside on the Milton campus. The College is well known for a variety of outstanding undergraduate and graduate programs, top flight nationally ranked athletic teams which compete in the NCAA Division III; and an outstanding theatre program. Academically, the largest majors are Business Management, Communication, Nursing, Criminal Justice and Psychology. Curry's Homeland Defense program was recognized by The Chronicle of Higher Education as the first undergraduate certificate level program of its type in the country. Curry's Residential Property Management certificate level program is the sixth in the country and the only one in the Northeast. The college won international acclaim for its Program for Advancement of Learning (PAL) as the nation's first college-level program for students with language-based learning differences. Faculty have appeared or been cited in the media, from The Boston Globe to National Public Radio to MSNBC, and an evening from the nationally recognized Blue Hills Writing Institute was broadcast on Book TV on C-SPAN 2. Curry's television program was one of the first in the country to offer HDTV instruction. Curry has also received great recognition for its communication program and award-winning radio station WMLN FM-91.5; its nursing program, which absorbed the Children's Hospital nursing school; and the considerable expansion of its programs under the auspices of the College's Division of Continuing Education. Beyond the Milton campus, Curry extends its educational programs to a continuing education satellite campus in Plymouth.
