Lyme Academy College of Fine Arts is dedicated to providing the best education in drawing, painting, sculpture and illustration through the study of the history, traditions and principles of the fine and liberal arts. The curriculum reflects a deep respect for traditional forms of teaching, which have produced master artists throughout the ages. The studio curriculum is centered around the study of nature and the human figure and stresses the importance of observational drawing, painting and sculpture as critical to the development of craftsmanship and technical skill. The educational programs of the College also serve to develop discipline, knowledge of the history of art, ideas and the human experience, critical thinking, a commitment to excellence and respect for authenticity and diversity in the search for intellectual and aesthetic integrity. The college is located in the historic beach community of Old Lyme, known for its artistic community of American Impressionists dating to 1899. Students live in beach houses throughout the community and enjoy a wide variety of outdoor activities including hiking, kayaking and volleyball. Old Lyme's central location makes for easy access to some of the area's best museums and cultural centers. Within an hour of Old Lyme are New Haven, Providence and Hartford. Boston and New York City are both within 2 and a half hours of the campus. The College boasts an excellent Visiting Artist Series, senior studios, regular museum trips, two gallery spaces, wood working shop, digital studio, printmaking facilities and more. |
