Mission
School mission: Texas Tech University prides itself on being a major comprehensive research university that retains the feel of a smaller liberal arts institution. Although enrollment is more than 28,000, our students boast of one-on-one interactions with top faculty in a safe and traditional campus atmosphere. Our student body is diverse with students coming from nearly every state in the U.S. and more than 100 different countries. Students choose from more than 150 undergraduate programs in eleven colleges, including a selective Honors College. Texas Tech is the only institution in the state with undergraduate and graduate schools, a law school and medical school all on the same campus, which facilitates your transition to professional studies. Texas Tech has a long history of involving undergraduates in research opportunities in areas such as alternative energy, food safety and other areas designed to solve real-world problems. We invest in the futures of talented and motivated students through the merit-based scholarship program. Any student with at least a 1250 SAT (reading and math only) or a 28 ACT (composite) and a top 10 percent high school class rank is eligible for a minimum of $10,000 in scholarships. Students who progress in the National Merit Scholarship Competition may receive scholarships totaling more than $60,000. Texas Tech is also committed to making college affordable for all students. The Red Raider Guarantee program offers four years of free tuition and fees to students whose families earn less than $40,000 per year. Lubbock, a city of more than 200,000, is large enough to offer great shopping, dining and entertainment options, but retains a friendly, college-focused atmosphere. You'll feel welcome immediately and understand why students enjoy making Lubbock their second home.
