| Mission | |
| School mission: | Bellarmine University is known for outstanding personal attention in the classroom and providing students with the knowledge, values, and connections required to develop lives of leadership and service. An independent Catholic institution, Bellarmine's mission is to serve the region, nation, and world through educating talented students of many faiths, nations, and cultures. In recent years, the institution has seen a 32% growth in traditional freshman students, representing increasing diversity in terms of international and minority students. The institution's commitment to the liberal arts is reflected in both the College of Arts and Sciences and the professional schools of business, communication, education, nursing and health sciences, and continuing and professional studies, as well as the Center for Interdisciplinary Technology and Entrepreneurship and the Institute for Media, Culture and Ethics. Numerous internships and study abroad programs allow students to expand their educational horizons beyond campus classrooms. Bellarmine's state-of-the-art library houses the largest collection of works by and about internationally renowned author and Trappist monk Thomas Merton. For many out-of-town students, Bellarmine's location sets it apart from other universities its size. Just five miles from downtown Louisville, Bellarmine is at the heart of the cultural and recreational offerings of the nation's sixteenth-largest city. The 135-acre campus is situated in a safe, historic neighborhood that features a golf course, indoor and outdoor tennis courts, a fitness center, and athletic fields. Recent additions to the campus include a jewel-box field-sports stadium, classroom space, and state-of-the-art residence halls. Students who live on campus will find choices ranging from the traditional college residence hall layout to apartment-style and suite living arrangements in brand new residence halls. All offer amenities such as laundry facilities, computer labs, study rooms, and air conditioning. With more than 50 clubs and organizations on campus and 18 NCAA Division II athletic teams, plus Division I men's lacrosse, Bellarmine offers a variety of recreational opportunities for students. |
