Mission
School mission: Bucknell fosters the intellectual, academic, social, cultural, and moral development of its students in a holistic educational experience. The university promotes the close interaction of students and faculty, which is enhanced by an emphasis on undergraduate research in all areas of the curriculum. The university also recognizes and supports the educational needs of students who will be living and working in a world where multiculturalism and technology demand broadened perspectives and transferable habits of thought. To that end, both independent and collaborative learning, along with focused study in international and modern culture and issues, are cornerstones of the Bucknell undergraduate experience. Bucknell University's engineering program was established over one hundred years ago, and the College of Engineering was formed in 1962. Comprised of five engineering departments with over 40 highly qualified and dedicated faculty and some 700 engineering majors, the College remains firmly committed to offering engineering educational opportunities of the highest quality. The College of Engineering offers four-year accredited Bachelor of Science degrees Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering. Master of Science degrees are also offered in Chemical, Civil, Electrical and Mechanical Engineering. In addition, the College of Engineering's Computer Science Department offers both Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science in Computer Science degrees for students in the College of Arts & Sciences. Ask any student what is special about Bucknell and they'll mention their professors, their classes, and their friends, but then they'll start talking about some of their personal interests, whether it's athletics, music, student government, or one of the more than 150 clubs and organizations on campus. Each weekend, students choose from a variety of events and activities, whether it's a student concert, cultural performance, a comedian, a dance, or a bus trip to New York City or another nearby city.
