| Mission | |
| School mission: | McNeese State University, a selective admissions institution, provides education, research, and service that support our core values of academic excellence, student success, fiscal responsibility, and university-community alliances. The University's fundamental educational mission is to offer associate, baccalaureate, and specific graduate curricula distinguished by academic excellence. "Excellence with a Personal Touch" is the McNeese motto and McNeese is recognized for its friendly, student-centered atmosphere. Faculty and academic support staff readily provide students with the tools necessary to succeed academically. Students are encouraged to cultivate skills for critical thinking, effective expression, ethical responsibility and civic engagement; and to gain an understanding of the global community. The Write to Excellence initiative is designed to ensure that all students, regardless of their major, can write effectively and appropriately for their discipline and the Writing Center provides support and assistance to all students. Student success continues outside the classroom as McNeese offers more than 120 official student organizations and a competitive intramural program that provide opportunities to develop leadership skills, meet new friends, or just have fun! The Honors College, social fraternities and sororities, and the religious organizations offer numerous community service opportunities. McNeese students develop interpersonal and life skills as they live and learn in a challenging and supportive academic environment. McNeese competes in 16 NCAA men's and women's teams and the Cowboys and Cowgirls have won more than 30 conference championships and made two trips to the football national championship. McNeese is the only university in Louisiana to have a rodeo team. McNeese rodeo students have won nine national titles and two runner-up titles. McNeese State University is a member of the University of Louisiana System, and it is located in Southwest Louisiana, an area known for its culture, food and outdoor activities. |
