School mission and unique qualities (as provided by the school):

Kansas Wesleyan University is a liberal arts institution located in Salina, Kansas. Founded in 1886, it maintains a covenant relationship with the United Methodist Church and is supported by the Kansas West Conference. Salina is the sixth largest city in the state and is a major arts and cultural community. Kansas Wesleyan University boasts many qualities that make the campus and educational experience unique for our students, faculty, and staff. Class sizes are small, with a student-to-teacher ratio of 13:1, allowing students to build relationships with their professors and receive the best possible instruction for their coursework. The Student Success Center allows student to receive one-on-one attention from a group of peer tutors. Placement rates for our graduates are near 100 percent on a yearly basis and 100 percent of our graduating nurses are placed in jobs. During the 2012-13 academic year, the debate team won a national championship, KWU's athletic teams boasted an average grade point average of 3.25, and they competed on a national level on both the men's and women's sides. Kansas Wesleyan offers a faith-based environment with opportunities for worship and fellowship several times per week and we work closely with our community churches to ensure that our students can practice their faith. Our community of 50,000 offers big city opportunity with a small-town feel, and students are heavily involved in volunteering; KWU students, faculty, and staff volunteer at hundreds of local organizations and raise funds for important groups like the Liberian Widows Initiative and the American Heart Association. More than 50 students received academic honors this year; including All-American status, and many students have been accepted into prestigious graduate schools including Boston College, Northwestern University, and Naropa University.

The mission of Kansas Wesleyan University is to promote and integrate academic excellence, spiritual development, personal well-being, and social responsibility. The parts of our University that make us unique are what make us the strongest; the low teacher to student ratio, our faith, and an excellent educational experience. KWU is divided into six academic divisions offering 25 degree programs and a Masters of Business Administration. We currently offer the only Emergency Management Bachelor's Degree Program in the State of Kansas and our nursing program continues to be one of the strongest in the state, with an NCLEX pass rate of 93.5 percent. KW students have the opportunity to continue their athletic careers, sing on stage, or participate in groups and events on a national level; they are focused, engaged, and involved. Kansas Wesleyan University has just come under new leadership and the environment is positive and energetic. Campus is buzzing with excitement, and the Salina community is extremely supportive of our efforts. The two entities collaborate in many ways including partnerships with several schools and the Eisenhower Presidential Library and Museum. Our local, national, and international alumni base is a supportive one with increasingly larger alumni chapters proving that our graduates continue to invest in the University long after they leave campus.
