Big Picture

The best thing about K-State is by far the sense of community. Everyone is usually friendly on campus and the sporting events are great- especially basketball, volleyball, and football. The purple pride really shows. Manhattan is a great town and very friendly towards the students. The administration is great at K-State- they really care about us! Kids complain a lot about being bored, but I think that is crap because there is always a ton of stuff to do if you are willing to try new things.

Academic Life

Classes at K-State are so varied. I had Natural Disasters, a class of 500 people, and then went across campus to my Shakespeare class of about 20. I had zero communication with my Natural Disasters class. I was just a body. But in my Shakespeare class I got to know the class and instructor. People at K-State are smart, but school is usually left in class, in the library, or at your desk. School isn't really brought to Aggieville or house parties. I'm an education major and I really like the way K-State's program is set up. I am actually an Ambassador to the College of Education. I know my advisor and she knows me. You have the same advisor all of college and they actually care. The curriculum is very organized and you get a wide variety of choices.

Student Body

K-State is mostly white and heterosexual, but that comes with the area. Kansas is pretty white and heterosexual too. However, for a town i central Kansas I think K-State is very diverse, at least a lot more diverse than where I came from. There are a lot of cliques at K-State. The Greeks, Aggies, Archis, Johnson County kids, Dorm kids, etc. Most students at K-State are from Kansas. There are quite a few from Johnson County in particular. Most kids are either middle or high class kids- not many underpriveleged kids are noticable. Politics wise- K-State is pretty divided. There are a lot of conservatives since it is Kansas, but there are also a lot of liberals since it is college and all. To class everyone wears whatever is most comfortable...sweats, shorts, hoodies, T-shirts (mostly purple ones). Some of the sorority girls pull out the heals and ugs but...that is ONLY the sorority girls.
